Routine checkup in Sydney - Frequently Asked Questions

  • You're probably wondering what exactly happens during a dental check-up and teeth cleaning appointment.

First, we will complete an oral exam by taking a close look at your teeth, gums, mouth, and the way your teeth bite together. During the thorough examination, we also check for any signs of tooth decay, cracks in the teeth or early signs of other dental or airway problems. You will be advised of any areas that require additional follow-up and treatment with a dental plan and informed discussion about the cost of any future treatments. Dr Sophia Petta is so gentle when cleaning your teeth with a high level of detail and attentiveness. We use special instruments to remove plaque, calculus and teeth stains above and below the gum line. Next, Dr Petta will floss all of your teeth and polish them thoroughly to remove stains and furry tooth plaque to keep your mouth healthy and fresh. Finally, we will apply a fluoride or remineralising calcium treatment to help strengthen and protect your teeth from the bacteria causing decay. Professionally applied topical remineralising agent (such as fluoride or tooth mousse) will help to reduce dental disease and decay. Only if necessary, we may take ultra low dose X-rays or dental radiographs to give your dentist a clear diagnostic view of your individual tooth health.

  • According to most dentists, you should get your teeth checked and cleaned every six months. The best approach to keeping excellent dental health and avoiding future dental problems is to visit your dentist regularly and establish great oral health habits, which Dr Petta will empower and encourage you with the skills you require to do just that!

  • A dental check-up typically takes 15 minutes for children and 45 minutes for adults on average. However, the length of time for your appointment will also be dependent on how long it's been since your last visit, together with the current condition of your teeth and gums. Additionally, it is important to remember that each case is as unique as you are!
